chicagoland to brown county
just returning to home base from a gig in chicago, hangs in hammond and a little retreat in the hills of brown county indiana.
my buddy justin hooked me up with the most excellent two day bread and butter gig in downtown chicago. i have never spent time downtown, also never ridden the bus or the train. checked those boxes, but i was happy to return to the villages. mostly i’ve spent time in little ukraine hanging with my cousin and buds or spinning records in pilsen. the villages feel more accessible to me.
after finishing up work in chicago i headed to meet up with casey king in hammond indiana. casey is a wealth of historical and environmental knowledge of NW indiana. it always takes me a few days (sometimes weeks) after a visit to digest and reflect on everything i’ve experienced and learned but i am forever grateful for the depth of knowledge that is shared.
i’ve also noticed HEAVY synchronicity while on these wanderings, which is always reassuring.
a highlight of my time in hammond was a visit to the hardware store for the most magical open mic. it was church. the really real deal.
i left hammond had a quick nap and slice of pizza in lafayette then headed to brown county to meet up with cousin and the chicago boys. brown county is always chill. lotsa music, great hikes, great campfire food (& coffee). heading back to lafayette tomorrow to recalibrate, work on my truck camping setup and plan for the next trip out.
