nashville run, nashville fun

i don’t like nashville, i can’t recommend nashville, but i always have fun in nashville.

it’s the specific people, not the place.

this past week was spent in the presence of hard working musicians. working class musicians. my buddy lisa called me up to accompany and document a record she is working on with a couple folks in the nashville area. the studio is just north of nashville in the beautiful farm country surrounding.

i’m grateful for the opportunity of full immersion. my ideal mode of photo-documentation is “fly on the wall” or in this case “dude on couch”

you’d think listening to one song all day would be tedious. but i found myself really into it. paying attention to all the little accents. appreciating every layer of singership and musicianship going into this collaboration.

we attended a dance at the american legion hall which was just down the street from our apartment in east nashville (somewhat safely removed from downtown). it was an absolutely magical scene listening to good traditional, rooted, country music while the dance floor was constantly packed with folks ranging in age from 21 into their 80s from all cultures and walks of life.

so much more to unpack from this trip, and while the long hours and overstimulation were challenging i also had a blast.

thank you lisa, mckinley, jason, russell, and susan!
